Five Black-Owned Businesses to Visit in National Landing

By Luke Fichter

Black History Month has been celebrated since 1926, thanks to enormous efforts by Carter G. Woodson — a scholar and educator who believed that education, social, and professional exposure of Black culture could help reduce racism. Through his commitment to honoring the Black community, Woodson said,

"If a race has no history, if it has no worthwhile tradition, it becomes a negligible factor in the thought of the world, and it stands in danger of being exterminated."

Why February? February coincides with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln (February 12) and Frederick Douglas (February 14), who were two paramount figures in the history of Black America.
